Welcome to Kennia Delafe Knowledge Base and IDD&E M.S. ’18, HED PhD’26 Portfolio.
Kennia Delafe, originally from Cuba, immigrated to the United States more than two decades ago, looking for opportunities to construct a reliable and stable future for herself and her family. Not knowing what to expect in the new environment and far from understanding the right decision, she maintained a growth mindset over obstacles. Kennia drew her path and stuck to it; she knew that knowledge was the only and strongest armor she could have.
Kennia completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and General Education at Le Moyne College while working in English as a New Language Adult Educator. After completing her degree, she continued on the Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation Masters Program at Syracuse University. Working with migrant adults worldwide was the perfect chance to combine previous knowledge, experience, and new skills in IDDE to improve her students’ lives through education.
During her studies in the IDD&E program, she was required to complete many electronic projects comprising the Master’s section electronic portfolio. In it, Kennia highlights her competency growth by showing a synthesis of completed individual and group projects created during the IDD&E courses, many required documents, and a thoughtful self-evaluation as part of the final MS requirement for graduation.
The new Higher Education PhD section of this portfolio is a work in progress while Kennia continues her studies to become a Doctor of Philosophy. Following the same pattern, Kennia shows her recent work and plans to continue adding more as she progresses through her program. Meanwhile, Kennia works as an Assistant Director for Syracuse University Project Advance, overseeing a group of concurrent enrollment courses and serving as a bridge between higher Education and High school. See her updated resume for more details.
Her research interest lies in the experience of educators who teach concurrent enrollment courses, the impact of concurrent enrollment courses on students’ access to college from the student experience, and how concurrent enrollment programs support students not only to access but to succeed in higher education.
I hope you enjoy it as much as she did.
Thank you,
KD
